Old San Juan “At Your Leisure” Shuttles

APS 2016 is offering to each attendee the opportunity to visit Old San Juan. Motorcoach shuttles will depart from the El Conquistador and drop off at Plaza Colon, a central location for tourism arrivals and departures. There will be one departure each day (09:00) and one return (14:45). Tourist information will be available in your conference kits to help guide you through your visits to Old San Juan.

Fee:Complimentary, but advance registration is required. One per registered attendee. Please select which day you would like to visit Old San Juan. Onsite date selection will be limited.

Welcome Reception at the El Conquistador

Spectacular resort and ocean views, cool beverages, sumptuous island cuisine and music on multiple levels of terraces and pool decks. You’ll find all of this and more, when you join your colleagues and friends for the APS 2016 Welcome Reception.

Fee:Complimentary for AP-S/URSI 2016 registered attendees and their guests. Delegates must indicate attendance during registration in order to receive their tickets for this event.

Amateur Radio Breakfast Meeting – Tuesday, June 28

In recognition of the role of amateur radio in the development of wireless technology, AP-S/URSI 2016 has made room to print amateur radio call signs on attendees’ badges. The Amateur Radio Breakfast Meeting is open to all conference participants who hold an amateur radio call sign, but pre-registration is required. The intent of the gathering is to gather support for the AP-S student, outreach and educational initiatives involving amateur radio.

The Reviewers’ Lunch is open to all reviewers of the last year for the APS Transactions and Journals.

Dine-Around Transfers to Old San Juan and Fajardo – Tuesday, June 28 and Thursday, June 30

This event has reached capacity.

The best San Juan restaurants can rival anything in London, Paris and New York. In fact, many of the island’s top chefs cut their teeth in Manhattan before branching out to what some call New York’s sixth borough. Two of the best areas for dining opportunities on the island are in Old San Juan and the local areas of Fajardo. You’ll be able to seek out the best Puerto Rican food, “comida criolla,” traditional dishes that are a blend of Spanish, Caribbean and West Indian flavors and ingredients. Young Professionals’ Beach Barbecue on Palomino Island at the El Conquistador – Tuesday, June 28

The Young Professionals’ Reception is open to all Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD). Enjoy all the great beach-side activities on the island – beach games (volleyball, ping pong or soccer), live music, and a barbecue buffet dinner.

Time:This event begins at 18:30, however, please note that you will need to take the Water Taxi from the Marina at the El Conquistador in order to get to the event on Palomino Island. Please meet at the Marina beginning at 18:00. The final transfer schedule will be posted at the Registration Desk.

Fee:Advance registration is required. $15.00 for GOLD attendees; $25.00 for advisors.

Women in Engineering Lunch and Speaker – Wednesday, June 29

The APS WIE take their symposium event in a new direction this year by offering a special luncheon and featured speaker, Dr. Mona Jaharri. This event is open to all conference participants, but pre-registration is required. The scopes of interest of the WIE include increasing the participation of women within IEEE, gathering and disseminating information regarding the status of women, and initiatives for, by and on behalf of women in engineering and science.

Awards Presentation – Wednesday, June 29

Please join the Antennas and Propagation Society’s Awards Committee, as they honor the distinguished accomplishments of the society’s professional community, including recognition of the 2016 IEEE AP-S Fellows. NOTE the new format, as the awards will be presented during a special evening session, to be followed by the celebratory banquet, which is a ticketed event. The Awards Presentation is open to all conference registrants and their guests.

Fee:There is no fee to attend the Awards Presentation, but advance registration is required. If you wish to join the awards recipients during this event, please register to attend.

Celebratory Banquet – Wednesday, June 29

This evening’s Celebratory Banquet will take place at The El Conquistador in the Pablo Casals Ballroom, and it is open to all conference registrants and their guests, but requires a separate ticket purchase. A three-course plated dinner will be served.

Please remember to add a Banquet Ticket, when you register for the conference. If you need to add one at a later date, please add one to your registration.

Note, too, that you will be asked to select from one of three entrees – seafood, vegetarian or chicken.
